Marine Mold Restoration | Boat Mold Prevention Tips

Mold and mildew can wreak havoc on a boat in the same way it can wreak havoc on a home. Even boats that are kept clean and well ventilated can still be subject to mold and mildew buildup, especially in those areas that are dark like under cockpit seats and chain lockers. Here are some ways to avoid needing Marine Mold Restoration.

Ventilation

The best way to prevent mold and mildew is to keep your boat well ventilated. Ventilation will keep the boat dry which will help prevent mold from building up. When you are not using your boat, it’s important to rely on ventilators to keep the moisture levels down. Passive ventilators, such as cowl vents, ventilating sails, ports, and hatches provide an access path for air to enter or leave the interior of the boat. Active ventilators incorporate a fan to keep air moving even when the boat or breeze is still.

Propane and Diesel Heaters and Stoves

Many larger boats have heaters and/or stoves on them. The by-products of these appliances are actually increased moisture. The moisture will most likely make its way to the cabins where it will fester. To prevent this, when using the heater or stove, open your boat’s hatch to let the combustion gasses escape.
